It has been announced today that Winnington Bridge Corridor has not received funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Levelling Up Fund.
Councillor Karen Shore, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member – Environment, Highways & Strategic Transport said: “I am really disappointed that we haven’t secured funding despite putting forward a compelling case for investment. This was a highly competitive and oversubscribed process. The Council has invested significant time and resources into getting the proposal to this stage, and together with our partners we put forward a very strong case.
“I would like to thank everyone who helped support the proposals to date, including the team working on this, partners and the business community. We are actively seeking feedback from Government on the rationale for today’s decision.
“The Council is committed to working to improve the transport infrastructure and will continue to liaise closely with partners and civil servants to identify opportunities for alternative funding to deliver a solution that local people and businesses need. The Council has been informed that there will be another round of the Levelling Up Fund, and we will fully explore the options regarding this as details emerge.”
